Health Care Equality
Contra Costa Health Services and Behavioral Health have participated in the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) national equality index survey and have been designated as Top Performer in LGBTQ+ Healthcare. We earned this designation by completing the Core Four Leader Criteria in HRC's national Healthcare Equality Index. The criteria represent policies and practices that are considered foundational to LGBTQ+ patient-centered care.
The Core Four Criteria include:
- Patient Non-Discrimination
- Equal Visitation
- Employment Non-Discrimination
- Training in LGBT Patient-Centered Care
To meet the fourth of the Core Four criteria, healthcare organizations must have key facility employees receive expert training in LGBTQ+ patient-centered care. Training programs offer all incoming and current staff the information and skills they need to provide culturally competent care and services to their LGBTQ+ patients.
