Psychiatric Emergencies
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) is the primary referral center in the county for patients on involuntary pyschiatric holds who are considered a danger to themselves or to others.
The Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) unit at CCRMC, which operates 24/7, provides evaluation and treatment for the first 24 hours of someone’s involuntary hold. PES staff works to place patients in designated mental health treatment facilities for further evaluation and stabilization for the remainder of the hold period. Some people may be deemed to need inpatient hospitalization for more intensive care.
