Reducing alcohol and other drug use and abuse is a key part of Contra Costa Health's efforts to support a healthier, safer community.

Contra Costa Health works with community providers to both prevent substance use in youth and provide quality services to young people suffering from substance use disorders.

Main initiatives

We focus most prevention efforts on three areas of substance use: marijuana, alcohol and opioids.

You can also learn about prevention and treatment across all substances:

Marijuana

Marijuana prevention programs aim to educate young people about the risks of marijuana use and help them develop skills to resist peer pressure to use marijuana.

Alcohol

Alcohol prevention programs aim to reduce underage drinking and alcohol abuse by educating young people about the risks of alcohol use and helping them develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Opioids

Opioid prevention programs aim to reduce the number of people who start using opioids and help those who use opioids safely and avoid overdose.
