Contra Costa Health works with 110 small water system connections to make sure that the cleanest, safest and most reliable drinking water is delivered to approximately 10,200 users. An entity, LLC or sole proprietor that operates a small water system in Contra Costa County must possess a valid water supply permit from Environmental Health, provide an emergency notification plan in case of a health emergency and perform required monitoring and reporting of water quality as specified by state regulations.

A water system with 200 or more service connections is considered a large water system and is regulated by the State Water Board Division of Drinking Water.
