Programs in our community can help you feed your children and family.

WIC

WIC provides nutritious food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals for women who are pregnant or postpartum, and children under 5 years old who meet the WIC income standards. Many working families are eligible. WIC provides healthy foods, such as milk, cheese, cereals, eggs, and juice – valued at between $60 and $100 a month. Locate your local WIC office and call 1-800-414-4WIC for more details.

Food For Children Program

The Food Bank provides low-income families with children 4 to 5 years old a box of nutritious food every month at one of six sites throughout Contra Costa County. Call the Food Bank for more information at 855-309-FOOD (3663) or visit the Food Bank website.

School Meals

The USDA offers programs that provide children with nutritious school breakfast and lunch at reduced cost or for free. Learn more about the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. Summer Food Service Program

The Summer Food Service Program provides children who are out of school with free, nutritious meals during school vacations, such as winter break and summer vacation, and off-track periods. Contact at 800-952-5609 for more information, or visit the website for a list of participating locations.

Head Start

Head Start provides low-income families, with children from birth to five years of age, services to develop education, health, school preparedness, and parental involvement. The services are free for income-qualifying families. Nutritious meals and snacks are served daily to children and families. Call 925-313-1551 to find your local Head Start program, and download an enrollment form in English or Spanish.

The Contra Costa Child Care Council

The Contra Costa Child Care Council administers the Child Care Food Program to help family child care providers serve healthy meals and snacks to the children in their care. Email Nutrition@cocokids.org for more information about the program, or contact the referral office at 925-676-KIDS (5437).
